Main Purpose of Job

To ensure that Quorum Technologies Ltd. maintains its position as the leading provider of Cryo-SEM preparation chambers and Electron Microscopy (EM) coaters by delivering quality products, in both Bench-top coaters and Cryo-EM. The purpose of this role is to meet increased testing demand due to new product development (NPD).

Role and Responsibilities

The Test Engineer will be responsible for evaluating and demonstrating the quality of Quorums’ product offerings both new and existing.

• Working as part of NPD teams to design and develop product solutions and meeting project timescales.
• Liaising with project teams, during pre-design phases, to define product testing needs and documenting them in test plans.
• Technical document writing and presenting of test plans and reports.
• Testing of new products as defined by project needs.
• Periodic lifecycle testing of existing products as required and documenting of findings.
• Assist business functions such as service department in testing fault reports from customer sites.
• Achieve a high level of product knowledge, including both Quorum and competitor products as appropriate.
• Provide test data required for ensuring confidence in design quality of product portfolio.
• Influence relevant engineering team members to improve quality of design solution outputs.
• Design/Build of test equipment as necessary for product testing activities.
• Collaborate with internal specialists and authorised representative to gather required documentation, collate and arrange filling of CE|UKCA requirements.
• Conduct Engineering test investigations through research, testing and data analysis

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

• Minimum HNC/HND in engineering or related discipline.

Required Experience and Skills

The successful candidate must have:

• Experience in a comparable test type role and a relevant field.
• Effective communication skillsets including ability to write clear and concise test documentation, presenting of findings to wider audience.
• Ability to discuss and translate experience into design changes, when appropriate.
• Understanding of CAD tools to primarily navigate systems and interpret design files.
• Test calculations and quality test report writing
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to cope with rapidly changing demands on time and prioritise jobs according to urgency.
• Excellent communication skills, the ability to challenge and question while maintaining positive relationships.
• Positive problem-solving mentality with willingness to challenge engineering team to find appropriate solutions.
• Ability to prioritise multiple tasks according to priority and work in a co-ordinated manner with sympathy for business needs.

Preferred Experience and Skills

• Experience in scientific instrumentation testing.
• Vacuum system understanding and testing.
• LN2 cooled system understanding and testing.
• MRP system experience (preferably SAP Business One).
• Conductive coating technology.

Additional notes:

Although based on site at Quorum technologies this role may include minor travel both domestic and overseas: Valid driving licence beneficial and passport required.

Attendance at trade shows means that ability to sit/stand for long periods is required.

Assisting with packing/unpacking products will require bending, lifting, and carrying heavy equipment.

Main Tasks & Responsibilities

As part of the Engineering Team, your responsibilities will include:

Health & Safety

• Act as Safety Representative for the Engineering Department
• Write and keep up-to-date Standard Operating Procedures for the use of laboratories equipment, and train users to follow SOPs and safety guidance
• Write and review Risk Assessments and COSHH assessments for the use of laboratories equipment, train users and monitor compliance
• Work with Facilities and the Health & Safety advisor to ensure the good standard of the laboratories and equipment through regular Health & Safety inspections and the timely completion of actions
• As appointed Radiation Protection Supervisor for ionising radiation equipment: supervise the operation and maintenance of Engineering ionising radiation equipment in accordance with the Local Rules, and monitor that staff observe the Local Rules for the safe use of ionising radiation equipment
• Adhere to all Health and Safety procedures, including reporting any accidents or near misses, to help ensure the workplace remains a safe environment at all times
• Ensure compliance with current Health and Safety and Environmental Legislation

Laboratories and equipment

• Act as 5S lead for the laboratories through 5S inspections and engagement with laboratories users
• Promote the adherence to 5S methodology in the laboratories and workplace, and identify and implement continuous improvements for best practice
• Ensure that work areas and equipment are kept in a safe, tidy and ordered fashion
• Schedule maintenance and repair work, which may be planned, preventative or as a consequence of an emergency breakdown
• Schedule and organise routine calibration and service procedures for all relevant equipment
• Supervise and inspect work of contractors undertaking service and calibration of equipment
• Create and maintain battle plans for equipment and essential services failure
• Assist with machinery and equipment installations

Testing

• Design test procedures, processes and light equipment to expand the capabilities of the laboratories
• Assist with the definition, coordination, set-up, running, results logging and reporting of tests required for Engineering work e.g. measurements, lightning, environmental and reliability testing
• Perform engineering analysis, design, plan, review and validation for projects as required in collaboration with design engineers
• Compile requirements specification for labs design tasks
• Implement and test design solutions, and evaluate their effectiveness
• Support product design and development lifecycle with test planning and guidance on test methodologies

Skills, Ability and Experience (Essential)

• A minimum of HND or BSC in electronics or related field
• Hands-on laboratory experience or relevant skills acquired in a research, academic, or industrial environment (relevant experience or skills are considered only those gained in an Electronics/Electrical Engineering or Environmental Lab).
• Experience in a specialized field such as instrumentation engineering and knowledge of environmental test equipment is highly preferred.
• Python scripting
• Knowledge of electronics and instrumentation related to sensor performance.

Eaton's Aerospace business in Titchfield is recognized as an industry leader in aerospace fuel systems and a premier supplier of fully integrated fuel systems for fixed and rotary wing aircraft. The site offers extensive fuel and air system test facilities, allowing either complete aircraft fuel & inerting systems or components to be tested over a wide range of altitudes and temperatures with differing fuel types. We're now looking for a Lead Quality Engineer to join our highly successful team.

What you’ll do:

Reporting to the Quality Director and leading a team of 3 direct reports, you will be responsible for executing the defined Strategic Quality Plan and providing quality assurance support to customers, suppliers, partners, and internal manufacturing cells. You will also participate in continuous improvement activities in targeted areas and execute the Quality Assurance strategy to ensure product flow consistent with established industry standards, government regulations, and customer requirements.

Responsibilities:

• Leads and supports the development of a team of 3 direct reports
• Provides quality customer interface and expertise to proactively assure requirements are understood and satisfied
• Executes the development, implementation, and improvement of the appropriate Quality Management Systems
• Participates in, and may lead, the auditing of internal Quality Systems and completes part approval documentation
• Analyzes organizational quality metrics and performs periodic reviews to evaluate results and recommend action plans
• Participates in product development and launch activities
• Investigates and eliminates causes of complex or multi-dimensional quality problems and follows up on corrective actions
• Participates in the design, procurement, maintenance, and evaluation of gauges, measurement instruments, devices, and test equipment
• Coordinates with multiple Quality Engineers to prepare consolidated plant, customer, and product status information and action plans

Qualifications:

• Previous experience in a Quality function in the Aerospace industry is a must.
• Thorough understanding of problem-solving methods, i.e., Six Sigma, 8D, root cause analysis, and the associated statistical tools
• Detailed knowledge of AS9100
• Ideally, a good knowledge of Part 145
• Experience with process auditing techniques to ensure compliance with defined quality requirements
• Detailed knowledge of product and end-user application/specifications, including product testing requirements
• Thorough knowledge of measurement techniques and a basic understanding of product material properties
