Job Title Design / Development Engineer
Reports to / structure Product Development Manager
Department / Location Engineering / Whitstable
Purpose of the role
To design, develop and deliver commercial interconnection solutions to Martec’s customer’s needs.
To ensure customer satisfaction via high performance on the product development delivery and customer quality performance metrics.
To ensure that Martec is sufficiently fast and flexible to quote and achieve lead times which enable Martec to gain & maintain market share.
To ensure that product cost targets are consistently met, to achieve Martec’s sales and profit.
Duties and responsibilities
• Aid Sales team with New Engineering Opportunities
• Input to the feasibility of new products and attend Accept Decline
meetings.
• Quote creation for NPI’s and report on progress in “Quotes in progress”
Meetings. Including: Component cost, Labour and Overhead, Plating, NRE.
• Carry out NPI gate stages from concept to handover to manufacturing.
• Ensure timely delivery of Engineering Revenue through project
management.
• Input to the New Product Strategic development.
• Create Marketing Literature for new and existing products.
• Create manufacturing Job sheets and specifications.
• Use of ERP to create and maintain manufacturing documentation.
• Disposition of product, raise and approve Concessions for non-conforming
product/process.
• Manage NPI/SPI tracker.
• Responsibility for configuration control for drawings, manufacturing
documentation and ERP.
• Creation of index cards for accurate cross reference between Martec and
customer drawings.
• Review and implementation of customer drawing change requests.
• Creation of new Process Specifications to introduce new manufacturing
standards.
• Ensuring product manufactured meets specification and the
testing/documentation to accompany this.
• Lead customer technical discussions. (Internally and externally).
• Ensure Source Change process is completed correctly and in-line with
AS9100.
• Aid the business ensure that all processes are AS9100 compliant.
• Carry out such other duties that may be reasonably requested.

Person Specification
Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in engineering, business, or related field preferred
Experience
• Experience in new product development, project management, or
related roles, preferably in a manufacturing or technology-driven
industry
• Experience in being part of cross-functional teams and delivering NPI
projects on time and within budget
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to
effectively collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders
• Experienced in small-scale manufacturing operations
Technical Knowledge
• Strong understanding of project management methodologies, tools, and
techniques
• Competency with CAD models and technical drawings for manufacture
Skills and Competencies
• Strong adaptability to varying situations and environments, capable of
adjusting strategies and approaches accordingly
• Demonstrated commitment to customer focus, consistently prioritizing
the needs and satisfaction of clients or stakeholders
