We develop leading edge test and measurement products with a particular focus on timing synchronisation for networks and equipment based largely upon Ethernet. We are recognised throughout the industry as the experts in this area, selling our products globally. Our products are based on proprietary hardware platforms with software configurable personalities and off instrument analysis software packages.

Calnex’s products consist of multiple complex PCAs loaded with thousands of components, some of which are extremely expensive BGAs, assembled in a metal instrument casing with high speed data buses and external interfaces. The instrument manufacturing is supported by a local supplier, delivered in-house, customised to the customer specified software requirements, tested, and shipped.

We are looking for a Manufacturing Engineer to join our small, but experienced manufacturing team. The team has a wide range of responsibilities, and this role will provide an opportunity to develop skills and experience across all these responsibilities.

This role is particularly suited to a recent Graduate or an Engineer with one or two years experience, who wishes to join a dynamic company with opportunities for learning, personal development, and career progression.

As part of the Manufacturing Team, your range of responsibilities will, over time, include the following:

o Manufacturing Testing – Perform the Manufacturing test and calibration on Production instruments to ensure compliance with production specification and product quality requirements.

o RMA Support – Perform fault finding and diagnostic investigations on instruments returned by our customers. Fault finding shall be to component level and local rework performed as appropriate.

o New Product Introduction – working closely with the R&D team to provide guidance on design for manufacturing practices and supporting the transfer of new products from the design phase to the contract manufacturer, establishing production stability.

o Technical Support – supporting both design engineers and contract manufacturers by testing, fault-finding and repairing complex analogue and hi-speed digital circuits down to component level.

o Supplier Management – building and maintaining relationships with key suppliers whilst managing day-to-day issues.

Essential Skills, Experience and Qualifications:

o Qualified to at least HND level in Electronic Engineering and /or demonstrated experience in debugging electronic circuits down to component level

3 Job Description

Delivering on REUK’s requirement to deliver complex and vehicle-scale technical demonstrations and trials or experiments. The equipment demonstrated comprises REUK’s own embedded electronic products (sensors, cameras) and off-the-shelf equipment including specialist vehicle electronics and general automotive IT equipment including computers, network equipment and displays, arranged in connected, system installation on test vehicles – wheeled or tracked/armoured, or in a representative display area (exhibition stand or workshop area). Familiarisation and expert support is on hand, but the successful candidate will be able to exhibit recent experience of operation and installation of similar equipment in a similar industry or Military role.

Each task will be project orientated in support of:

• The Sales Team, who require the demonstration to win business or acquire leads;

• The Engineering Team, who require trials and experiment setups to verify performance and/or validate requirements;

• The Vehicle and Safety team, where such demonstration offers the opportunity to train other REUK staff and partners, or potentially customers.

The role would suit an individual comfortable with a frequently (but not solely) customer facing role in a predominantly military or military procurement authority environment; capable of converting a generalised capability need (e.g. adding a new product into an existing demonstration kit arrangement, and ensuring its ready for use) into direct implementation (Identify and procure parts, design the installation, install, bring into use and document/train/demonstrate to others); Organised across task and task breakdown, to timescales, across occasionally multiple projects.

4 Key Responsibilities

o Maintain knowledge currency on all product functions and operations (training will be given) : demonstrate all features

o Demonstrate and discuss product function and operations with customers and visitors (as direct by a member of the Sales and Business Development team)

o Train other trials operatives (in house, corporate colleagues or external incl. customers or resellers)

o Setup and present demonstration in a professional and friendly way (as directed by a member of the Sales and Business Development team)

• Convert high-level trials or demonstration user requirements (e.g. Sales and Business Development team request for demonstration proposal for a UK MOD facing exhibition event) into a plan, with task breakdown and resource requirements, and to project manage and physically deliver (build, test, transport, train or demo) that plan.

5 Day to Day Work

• Meet with, and adopt or interview demonstration requirements from Stakeholders (Sales, Marketing, Engineering and Product Leads, ILS (training) team)

• Plan responding outcomes: simple project planning tools are appropriate: Excel, Documents, Task Lists

• Task REUK business resources to achieve plan –

• raise purchase requisitions

• raise bespoke design tasks on engineering (e.g. mechanical components or product feature changes)

• clarify budget and charge points

• coordinate with travel and export control staff

• Produce clear and simple Documents for internal use – User guides, Setup Guides, Trials Logistics (Demonstration Travel or Attendance Itinerary’s, joining instructions, movements and tests)

• UK and Europe and occasional Rest of World long distance driving, within safe working guidelines

o Clean Car Driving License (larger class license not essential but may be helpful)

• Short period UK and foreign travel, across multiple nights

• Heavy lifting within safe guidelines

• Working at height (training given) - typically on top of vehicles or related ladder work

• Basic, demonstration grade(not to production standard) vehicle-based IT equipment installation:

o Design/layout and installation of computers, screens, cameras, sensors for purposes of demonstration or experiment

o Supported by (and drawing from) the REUK procurement and product engineering function.

• Apply for and execute export/import procedures (training given)

Job Title: RF over Optics Design Engineer

JOB PURPOSE

ETL is a leading global provider of RF satellite signal handling equipment for teleports, broadcasters, marine, military and governments around the world. We are looking for a highly capable RF over Optics Design Engineer to join our team to play a key role in defining and developing the company’s range of RF over fibre products and provide technical support to the Sales & Marketing team.

ROLE DIMENSIONS

This role would suit an RF over Optics Engineer or possibly an experienced RF design engineer with a keen interest to learn the Optics aspects of the job. This role will require substantial laboratory-based work where you will take ownership of your designs and be involved in the full product lifecycle, taking products from concept through to production, including full system analysis where needed.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

Design and development a range of RF over Optics receiver and transmitter modules and CWDM & DWDM

systems.

System analysis and link budgets for optical & RF transceivers between multiple remote locations.

Integration of optical convertors into RF circuits and equipment.

Hardware design and development including RF and electronics circuit design.

To provide technical support to other areas of ETL’s business and interaction with colleagues in other

engineering disciplines, as well as sales & marketing and customer support.

This role includes full product design lifecycle, from concept to production. Hence it will include:
